I'm cooking this year, just for me, mom, and Gumball. I am making the following:
- Fresh cranberry sauce
- Mashed potatoes with lots of butter and cream. I will break out the hand mixer even
- Roast brussel sprouts
- Stuffing
- Turkey
- Gravy
- Maybe creamed spinach. Maybe
I bought a pumpkin pie.
What is everyone else having? Please post menus in the comments. I'm nosy, curious, and need a snack immediately.
We're going to do an international theme for our mini-Thanksgivings. This year's country is Spain. We will have wine, almonds, olives, tortilla, chickpea salad, hot cocoa, and rice pudding. Pretty much everything on epicurious that had "Spanish" in its title and didn't include meat. (Authenticity would require research, which would require me not to be lazy.)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds amazing! I love that idea. Flan!!! For desert! Or this: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/09/tres-leches-cake/ which is not Spanish, but rather South American... but really yummy. OMG! Or you could make that thick Spanish hot chocolate and churros.
ReplyDeleteWe're (okay, *I* am) all traditional here.
ReplyDeleteRoast turkey (slathered in butter and covered in fresh herbs, stuffed with apple pecan dressing).
Apple pecan dressing on the side, too.
Bacon-wrapped asparagus (okay, that's not exactly traditional, but we've gotta stretch, too, right? Plus, it's bacon!).
Homemade cranberry-pear sauce.
Sweet potatoes with apples and cranberries.
Roasted garlic mashed potatoes with tons of butter and cream cheese.
I also have a couple stuffed pumpkin recipes I'm hoping to try.
I'm making pumpkin pie with a graham crust and Tom is making apple pie.
We usually have rolls and salad, but they get left, so we're just having a carb-fest with turkey on the side.
I forgot to add that I make giblet gravy, too. :+)
ReplyDeleteI am non traditional and just making food that is appealing to me (and my family).
ReplyDeleteHerb roasted chicken with a layer of vegetables under it.
Pasta carbonara
Garlic bread
There's also ice cream and red velevet cake *yummm
I can't decide where to go to eat first. If only you all were my neighbors! Shan, I make giblet gravy too. A vast amount. I love it on everything. OMG. You need to look at the cartoon link I posted on FB, if you haven't already. So funny. And Carmen- your menu sounds wonderful! Do you have a recipe for the carbonara? It's a favorite of mine (bacon! cream! peas! pasta!) but I've never made it.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of pioneer woman... because she always make food drenched in butter LOL.

Thanks, Carmen! Heh- you'll appreciate this. My mom wouldn't take any leftover mashed potatoes home with her, even though they were amazing. They contained: butter, cream, sour cream, and cream cheese. Yup. And salt.
